“We are proud to share that as a result of our ‘Climate Commitment’ programme, we operated entirely from renewable energy throughout the group, in the month of May 2024.
An investment of £250k mid, 2023, in a Solar Array, has ensured that we are now a net contributor to the National Grid and never draw electricity during any Peak Period, minimising our carbon footprint, creating a positive impact on our planet and helping to create a cleaner future for generations to come.
It is a passion of the business and our efforts will continue.”
Andy Roe, provides the detail which supports the statement:
“It’s thrilling to see how the ‘Solar System’ is operating and where we are as a business in terms of our ‘Climate Commitment’.
A comparison of energy bills from July, 2023, and May, 2024, demonstrates that in the month of May 2024, the entire operation at 26 Missouri Avenue operated solely from renewable energy.
The bills are split into two categories – day and night. Day time consumption may well and often utilise an element of fossil fuels, particularly during peak periods. Night time consumption is principally derived from renewable energy particularly between 2am and 4am when there is a surplus of renewable energy in the grid. Our daytime consumption from the grid is now effectively zero and the only consumption we do have is between 2.30am and 3am when we charge our batteries to ensure there is no demand from us on the grid during the peak morning period when the solar system has yet to fire up as the sun rises. This charging is wholly from renewable sources.
My assessment at this stage is that this will be the case for months March through to October and may well be the case for November through to February, 2025, but we will have to wait and see. It is absolutely the case that the system could ensure that we are 100% renewable only, all year round. Additional investment in battery capacity may be required to account for the shorter winter daylight hours – this will continue to be closely monitored”
